What is the purpose of this policy?
Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly changing how organisations create, communicate, research and make decisions. For the IPTF, AI presents a significant opportunity to extend our ability to educate, share insight and collaborate across the industry and raise awareness of the importance of protecting income.
Used well, AI can help us work more efficiently, improve the quality and reach of our content, and make better use of the expertise and resources available to us. But our purpose means that how we use AI matters as much as whether we use it.
The IPTF exists to build understanding, encourage collaboration and help more people benefit from Income Protection, and our use of AI must therefore reflect the same standards of trust, accuracy, transparency and human judgement that support our work.
How will the IPTF use AI?
The IPTF will use AI as a supporting tool to enhance the quality, speed and reach of our work, while ensuring that all outputs contain human expertise, professional judgement and accountability.
AI will be used primarily to assist with drafting, summarising, researching, structuring and refining content, particularly where it helps us communicate ideas more clearly or efficiently. This includes supporting the development of articles, reports, presentations, event materials, internal documents and educational content, as well as helping to summarise information from multiple sources to inform our thinking.
AI may also be used to support brainstorming and idea generation, helping us explore different perspectives, challenge assumptions and identify gaps in our thinking. In these contexts, AI will act as a thought partner rather than a decision-maker, and its outputs will always be reviewed, edited and validated before being used or shared.
We will also use AI to improve operational efficiency, including tasks such as summarising meeting notes, drafting correspondence, organising information and supporting administrative processes. This is intended to free up more time for higher-value activity such as stakeholder engagement, industry collaboration and content development.
However, AI will not replace human judgement in any area where accuracy, interpretation, reputation or responsibility is critical. All externally published content, strategic positions, research conclusions and public communications will remain under the control and approval of IPTF members.
How do we protect data, ensure transparency and maintain accuracy?
The IPTF will not input personal, sensitive or confidential information into AI tools without appropriate safeguards. Where AI tools are used to process information, we will comply with our data protection obligations under UK GDPR.
Where AI has played a significant role in producing content, this will be disclosed where appropriate. The IPTF is committed to transparency about how our work is produced and AI-assisted content will never be presented as being wholly written or verified by a human when it is not. All AI-generated content is fact-checked before use or publication.
This policy will be reviewed annually to ensure it reflects developments in AI technology and best practice.
